Yarn Cake Portraits

Did you know there’s a Flickr group for photos of yarn cakes? It’s great, too. People take some seriously amazing portraits of yarn. Brooklyntweed’s over there, putting everyone to shame.

I hardly ever remember to photograph yarn in ball form, but I spent a goodly portion of the afternoon winding little sample skeins of Hello Yarn Sock and couldn’t let them go without a picture. They’re not too shabby, considering it’s 6 pm and I’m usually a daylight photo kinda girl.

All of my wallpapers are here.

Fiber Club:

Very many thanks to everyone who signed up. I had a blast the other day, buying all the stuff to make your packages special, and I’ll be dyeing very soon. I’m very excited to surprise you!

Random Flickr Wonderfulness:

A photostream of Nick DeWolf’s photos, mainly from the late 60’s and early 70’s in Boston. I don’t even know who he was, but the photos are wonderful and the subject matter (people in my town) is fascinating.

Beautiful picture! The yarn looks so cute in those little shelves.

I love the pix and I didn’t know they’re called “yarn cakes” — so I guess I CAN have my cake and eat it too, eh?

Now where did you get the cubbies for the yarn cakes — I’d love to be able to make decor out of my yarn fetish and this type of shelf would be awesome!

I like your portraits better than brooklyn tweeds, I think he is stuck up about his knitting and photography anyways!

Psyched about the fiber club! I’m a member over at Spunky Eclectic, too, and there’s nothing like that mystery fiber delivery!

I have the same black and white bowl as shown in your lovely photos! It originally belonged to my parents when I was little and now, 30 years later, it belongs to me. It was and remains the Official Popcorn Bowl!

Love the cakes in the little shelves. I don’t know what it is but I’ve been taking tons of photos of cakes lately. Strange compulsion.

Hooray for selling out the club!

What are the sample cakes for? And can I have them for my own? Let me know! ;)

You’re welcome! Can’t wait until the first installment! I have to tell you – my husband has claimed my Hello Yarn buttons and wears them around the house on his t-shirts. I’m just waiting for the day he forgets to take them off before going to Home Depot!

Those old Boston pictures are great. I saw a similar exhibit based on NYC at the Museum of the City of NY last year and it was great as well.

Ooh, yarny wallpaper! I’ve been due for a change of wallpaper, but hadn’t spotted a yarn picture I liked. Now I know where to find lots of really good ones. Thanks!

I’m one of your new fiber club members…I couldn’t resist. Well truthfully, I didn’t try. ;) I know it will be great!

    Adrian –

Thank you for your presentation last night at our guild meeting. You have some incredible stuff. And it is no reflection on your teaching skills (awesome and gentle) that I can’t spin yarn. I will continue to do my part by consuming the spinning output of others – leaving the spinning to experts. Thank you for your patience.

Your photos of your yarn are wonderful. The colors match the yarn in person. The color saturation in the pictures/yarn are brilliant.

I’ll have to keep my eyes open in a few months for your next fiber club. I might be good enough at spinning to merit it. ;o) Speaking of spinning, the icanspin.com site is having some kind of ISP dispute with their domain name, so for now they’ve transferred their site to http://www.ispindle.com. I thought I’d let you know so you can update the link in your sidebar.

Thanks for the pretty pictures. I wish I had more time to knit socks . . .

We have the same mushroom bowl! And I just put together a post that has pictures of it. (It won’t actually get posted until tomorrow.) How random is that?
