Color Shift Yarn

This is one result of the other day’s carding mania.

You can see how the colors from green to blue to purple by following the batts around in a clockwise direction.

And the resulting yarn:

100% Finn wool
195 yards
7 oz.
bulky weight single

To make this yarn, I dyed three solid colors in blue (primary) and two secondary colors (green and purple). I took a little artistic license with what is a primary and what is a secondary, but you get the picture. Mr. HelloYarn then carded 2 batts each of the 3 colors, and I carded 3 mixtures (one half and half, one 1/4 and 3/4 , and the other 3/4 and 1/4) to go between each secondary and its neighboring primary. I then spun each batt in order. It helps to know how much you can fit on a bobbin so that you can have one big old skein of happiness at the end.

Hey, who’s going to Doyle’s tonight for the Knitting Olympics opening ceremonies? I’ll see you there!

The yarn turned out beautifully! I have only played with this type of blending with my hand cards as I don’t yet have a drum carder. The results are so wonderful. Thanks for sharing!
