Finished Object- Ufserud

ufserud hat
*see it laid out flat*

* project: Ufserud hat, a kit from Bea Ellis Knitwear
* size: one size, 21″
* yarn used: Dale of Norway Heilo in 3418 (orange) and 9335 (green)
* started Nov. 6, 2005
* finished Nov. 19, 2005
* This is an easy project, bar getting gauge (I had to go down two needle sizes). It’d be perfect for learning color knitting.

I highly recommend these kits. The pattern is well written, the chart is bold and easy to see (it takes up a whole page!), the yarn is lovely and you have a great selection of colors, and the price is great. I did find a mistake in the chart, but it was so far in (row 43) it sticks out like a sore thumb.

The hat came out at the correct size, 21″+, which was far too big for either my husband or me, so I washed it by hand and then dried it a bit in the dryer. It came out at 20″, which fits us much better. Other peaheads beware, you might have to do the same.

Now that I see how these hats are made, it’s hard not to think of a million patterns I should be charting. I mean, interlocking skulls and crossbones? Yeah!

    Fellow peahead here, with one of those kits (The Traditional) waiting to be cast on. Thank you for the tip.

    That hat is MARVELOUS! I love it. Glad to hear it’s good for a beginner in colorwork, since I’ve really done none before. (except some trim in my socks and a baby hat, but they don’t even really count. it wasn’t serious colorwork)

    It looks great! As far as the pattern, you say it’d work well for learning color knitting. Does it have good instructions for someone who has no idea? I was thinking of getting a book that might go into some detailed instructions, but those kits are so nice!
