Feather and Fan Shawl

This week’s been a doozy! I wanted to bake brownies on Tuesday so turned the oven on only to have the knob make a series of frightening clicks. Whatever it was, it rendered the knob useless with the OVEN TURNED ON. It was a balmy 90-something degrees that day, so there was much running around and wringing of hands before we just finally shut the main gas off. Our beautiful old Magic Chef range from the 50’s is a goner. I was quite sad until we got the new one, which is so lovely and modern that I’m sorry I ever doubted it.

Then some asshat got my Hello Yarn debit card info and bought a whole bunch of crap on some gaming site. That was actually pretty easy to sort out, and despite not having the debit card (which I use for everything) for a few days, things are running smoothly enough.

Then my sinuses attacked. I’ve been on the couch for a day and a half, so to soothe my sadness, started knitting something for myself. After much hemming and hawing about how to best use this wealth of handspun yarn, I decided on the Feather and Fan Comfort Shawl and started in on it. Ah, it was the perfect choice. Larissa, you need one, too!

I want this really big, with the point falling to my knees, at least, so that it’s almost a blanket. I am not confident that I’ll have enough yarn, even with 800+ yards, so I’ll probably end up pausing to spin up some more of this color, as it’s the only one I have any wool left for. It’s knitting up quickly so hopefully I’ll have a finished piece to show off soon, especially if I stay sick!

New update- handspun yarns from both Hello Yarn and Maisy Day Handspun, glorious Merino/Silk spinning fiber, and 5 spindle kits with super saturated colors.

Remember this? It’s now this. 560 yards of super bulky two ply.

I’ve also added the Louet Roving Carder Junior to the shop. It’s $280 plus $3.85 shipping, just like any other order. It’s a great carder- the one I use and love.

Handspun Shawl

I’m finished spinning the yarn for my shawl.

Stats:
830 yards total
about 20 oz.
bulky weight
all Merino, if I recall correctly

This was all spun from leftover bits and pieces of wool I dyed for the shop. I intended all along to knit Knitting-and.com’s Feather and Fan Comfort Shawl but now I have weaving on the brain. I can’t decide! I just want something very cozy and warm for around the house. It’s funny to think about cozy and warm in the deadly heat we’ve been having. I don’t think I’ll be knitting this for awhile, anyway. The thought of a puddle of Merino on my lap isn’t a pleasant one. So, maybe weaving. Or waiting.

In the meantime, I started a little scarf last night with my Habu haul and this wonderful little skein by Linda Scharf of stoneleafmoon. Isn’t it gorgeous?

I’m going to knit a bunch of narrow strips in mixtures of yarns and then sew them together side by side to form a scarf. It’s so fun to play with all those little yarn pieces.

While in NYC, I bought some 12″ Addi Turbos at School Products. I switched my sock in progress onto the size 0 and just could not hang of knitting with that teensy needle. I think part of the problem was that I could barely feel such a thin needle inside the stitches so was clutching tightly for fear of it slipping out of my hands. OW- such hand cramps! It’s back to the magic loop for me.

I’d kill for a swimming pool today!
