Kromski Polonaise
30-Jun-05
It’s here. It’s wonderful. My Louet is crying in the corner.

I got the walnut finish and it is so beautiful. I had no idea just how adjustable this wheel was going to be. You can move almost every single part by turning the various large wooden screws. They’re all very easy to turn by hand and lovely to look at, too. From my inspection while assembling it and from spinning on it in the last day and a half, this wheel is very well made.
I’ve been spinning double drive and loving it. I’ve had Scotch and Irish tension wheels in the past, but double drive is new to me. The only thing that stinks is that I’d gotten used to grabbing the flyer on my Louet to stop it while treadling to force the bobbin to wind the yarn on. I did this when I’d found a slub that I went back to remove and didn’t want to add more twist getting the yarn on the bobbin or the bobbin was kind of full and I was forcing more yarn on. Can’t really do that with this one. But this wheel has a nice, steady, strong pull and spinning is a cinch. The treadling is easy, as are starting and stopping. The flyer makes a nice clickety clack noise that reminds me of really old wheels. The hemp driveband, which I thought I’d immediately replace with a stretchy one, is great and looks good on the wheel.
I got the matching stool and it’s quite comfy. It’s hard as a rock, of course, which I thought might be a problem, but I sat on it for a good few hours yesterday and forgot all about it and no sore butt. It’s small so tucks out of the way easily, which is a great plus for me.
I used two ugly colorways I had sitting around and plied them together. I kind of like the colors now, which is a bonus.
ETA: I got the wheel from Pacific Wool and Fiber on eBay. They were great about letting me pick the finish I wanted, even though it wasn’t the same as the auction, they emailed me to let me know everything was going smoothly, and emailed again with a tracking number, which is just what I want when I give someone I’ve never met lots of money.
Shop Update
28-Jun-05
Good morning!
I’m finished updating the shop a bit early today as I hardly made anything this week. Well, I dyed a bunch of fiber but there was another unfortunate felting incident that we won’t talk about. I don’t know what’s gotten into me but I hope it’s out of my system!

This is mainly a spinner’s update. I’ve added hand-dyed Merino/silk spinning fibers, 2 yarn spinning kits, spindle kits, and hand-dyed sock yarn. This stuff is like a festival of softness.
Someone’s new spinning wheel is on the UPS truck, out for delivery!
