Fabulous Handspun- Someone Else’s

I bought some fantastic handspun yarn at Circles yesterday. Does anyone recognize it? The owner couldn’t remember who’d spun it, other than “some spinners in Maine”. It’s such beautiful stuff. I’d love to see what else they spin.

Here it is with an idea of what I’d like to make with it. I think I’ll start the collar from the top and work down, using yarn overs for increases. I hope they show up in this bulky stuff!

Stats:
70/30 lambswool and cashmere
70 yards
super bulky+

I also bought A Gathering of Lace yesterday. My lace horizons have expanded by leaps and bounds!

Laceweight

I dyed myself up some laceweight 2 ply yesterday.

2500 yards/ 8 oz. laceweight
100% very soft wool
hand-painted with acid dyes and microwaved

The question is, what should I make? I like The Yarn Harlot’s Snowdrop Shawl (pdf) and Anna’s Shawl (the red one). Does anyone have any other suggestions? Maybe a Pi shawl. The yarn’s not quite dry so I have a moment to decide before I get too excited and cast on for something.

I think I’ll go dye another skein, but for sale this time. The yarn is gorgeous! It’s such fun to have 2500 yards all in one skein. Thank goodness for my trusty ball-winder, though. I’d faint if I had to wind this by hand!

Random Dyeing

I have written a little tutorial on my new favorite method of dyeing. It’s great fun!

I’ve been knitting away on the razor shell scarf, but I won’t bore you with progress photos. It looks like it did the other day, just longer. It is a treat to knit the simple lace pattern and the Knitpicks Alpaca Cloud is great for it.

I have been doing a little personal spinning ( a rarity these days). The fiber I’m using is Merino sliver from Genopalette (scroll down). Oh, is it beautiful and soft, and so easy to spin! This is what all new spinners should learn on. It drafts like buttah. I’m getting an approx. fingering weight two ply yarn from it. I’ll spin up the whole pound this way and overdye it for a shawl. I’m thinking a really bright acidy green will look great over the brown. It’s going to be a while before I can get knitting. That’s a whole lot of spinning!
