Henry Rumage has been working with wood in various
mediums for most of his life. As a very young man he
began as a carpenter's apprentice and while he has
held many varied jobs, he has always come back to
woodworking and carpentry. By day he works as an
independent builder/contractor, and in his spare time
he enjoys doing smaller pieces in his workshop. When
his daughter, Sarah, began her handspun yarn business
he became interested in the various interesting tools
of the trade and began experimenting with his own
designs.
Each Maisy Day Handspun nostepinne, niddy noddy, and
drop spindle is carefully made entirely by hand from a
wide variety of woods. Much of the wood he uses is
reclaimed, be it a modern stair bannister or the rungs
of a Civil War era ladder.
The drop spindles are carefully balanced and have
their weight evenly distributed between the shaft and
the outermost edge to create a nice even spin.
