*flat view*

bulky weight yarn
size 10, 16" circular needle, plus dpns, or just dpns, or whatever size you need to get gauge
gauge: 13.5 sts. per 4"
infant-sized (16"-17" head)

Cast on 50 sts. Join and knit in garter st. for 1". Change to stockinette and knit straight until piece measures 3.75" total.

Decrease rounds:
*K8, K2Tog*, repeat between *s around
knit 1 row plain
*K7, K2Tog*, repeat between *s around
knit 1 round plain
*K6, K2Tog*, repeat between *s around
knit 1 round plain
*K5, K2Tog*, repeat between *s around
knit 1 round plain
*K4, K2Tog*, repeat between *s around
knit 2 rounds plain
*K3, K2Tog*, repeat between *s around
knit 2 rounds plain
*K2, K2Tog*, repeat between *s around
knit 2 rounds plain
*K1, K2Tog*, repeat between *s around
knit 2 rounds plain
*K2Tog*, repeat between *s around
knit 5 rounds plain
cinch stitches and weave in ends.

Ear flaps:
(done in garter stitch-knit every row)
pick up 12 sts. at hat edge with right side facing.
K 2 rows plain, then start decreasing one stitch on each end of row on every other row, 2x.
decrease 1 stitch at each edge on every row, 3x.
bind off remaining stitches.

Repeat on other side of hat, being sure to leave 5" of space in between ear flaps for face to fit.

Make 2 pom poms and sew to ear flaps, on the right side, about 1/2" from bottom.
